I have found that Agility slats are helpful for individuals who need visual cues to take longer steps in the home or as a training tool. I have tried using these slats with individuals who have severe freezing and who did not respond to tape on the floor. It seems that the thickness of the slats (1/8″) is enough of a visual trigger to facilitate their stepping over each slat. They come in 12″, 16″ and 20″ lengths. I usually cut them in 1/2. Instead of having one 16″ long slat, it gives me 2 – 8″ slats. Shorter slats clear the walker wheels so that there is no interference. The slats in the video below are 8″ long.
