Are you one of those people who avoids getting Down on the floor? I know I have from time to time. Has it been so long that you don’t even know if you can get up from the floor? Parkinson’s can play a role but I have found that weakness, lack of flexibility and arthritis are large contributors to difficulties. Exercise and practicing this activity will help reduce the amount of effort required and improve confidence.
Typically caregivers have never been taught how to help someone up from the floor which can result in unsafe situations and potential injury to either the caregiver/PWP or both. Performing some exercises on the floor can give you added practice. Seeing a physical therapist regarding floor transfers would be helpful to address your individual needs.
